About Radha Krishna Mandir – Cambridge, ON

Radha Krishna Mandir (RKMCC) was officially opened in early September 1989 for Janamashtmi by Dr Budhendranauth Doobay, The President and Spiritual Leader of the Voice of Vedas also known as Vishnu Mandir, Richmond Hill Ontario.

Dr. Doobay was assisted at the opening ceremony by Pt. Bhojnarine Sharma, Head Priest of Vishnu Mandir, as well as then Priest of Radha Krishna Mandir Pt. Danain Persaud, and Pt. Sewlal Persaud.

Pandit Bhojnarine Sharma, also read and officiated at a four day Yagna to mark the Mandir’s opening.

Prior to this, Cambridge Hindu Society with a few supporters from Guyana and Trinidad, held special services at individual homes and on Sundays and for major festivals at school and public auditoriums/facilities in Waterloo Region until the community saw it best to purchase the present building at 67 Old Mill Rd Cambridge Ontario.

This building was originally a Christian church with the front part originally built around 1890’s making it a Heritage Building. The back section was added around 1972.

From the time of purchase until today improvements have been made mostly by members and volunteers.

Since its inception, Radha Krishna Mandir has been and continues to be available to every Hindu and Hindu organization, for public and private use and its executives are elected by members for a 2-year term.

Prior to the arrival of its first fulltime priest, in 2004, Pt Ghanashyam Sharma of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, weekly services and special functions were performed by Pt Danain Persaud and Pt Sewlall Persaud both of whom have moved on. Pt. Dwejendra Doobay, is a priest affiliated to the Mandir he continues to serve organization both as a priest and also in an advisory capacity. Our most recent fulltime priest was Pt Rudra Prashad Dhungana, who has returned to India in late September 2020, due to his father’s deteriorating health.

Over the years Radha Krishna Mandir and its members have seen many Hindu leaders, Swamis, Hindu Priests, Pandits and Didijee’s come and spread the teachings of Sanatan Dharma while enjoying the peace and serenity along with true Hindu Hospitality.

In May 2020 we officially changed our Bylaws as well as our name to Radha Krishna Mandir and Cultural Centre (RKMCC) and after successfully winning the right to proceed with our new Mandir, we have initiated a building permit application to build a new eighteen thousand (18,000) square feet facility at the intersection of Cherry Blossom Rd and Boxwood Dr and Royal Oak Rd

During its history RKMCC has been served by many and has been under the leadership of Bhai Dwarka Persaud, Bhai Mohan Ramphal, Bhai Prem James, Bhai Dev Ram, Bhai Harrydeo Prashad who were all fulfilling their sewa as President of RKMCC. Currently the President is Bhai Vishnu Balbahadur

Also in 2020, after 20 years of owning a 2.24-acre piece of land in Cambridge (and three zone change attempts), we have overcome the last challenge and we have initiated our plans for the new Mandir. We hope to have our Bhoomi Puja in early 2021.
