Bhawna Lakhanpal

Bhawna Lakhanpal brings over 15 years of teaching experience, including seven years in Canada, where she has worked in a variety of educational roles. She currently serves with the Waterloo Region District School Board as a Designated Early Childhood Educator and Hindi teacher and is actively involved with ETFO, the educators’ union.

For Bhawna, teaching goes beyond academics and focuses on nurturing values, identity, and inner strength. She believes that God offers a path to self-understanding, and that practices such as meditation and staying connected to one’s roots support children and adults in discovering their inner power, purpose, and cultural identity. Her decision to volunteer and teach at the Mandir reflects these beliefs. She views the Mandir as a sacred and inclusive space where children can meaningfully learn language, culture, values, and mindfulness. Through Mandir education, she hopes to help children and families remain connected to their heritage while growing into confident and compassionate individuals.

Bhawna lives in a joint family with her husband, in-laws, and two children. Growing up and continuing to live in a joint family has reinforced her belief in the importance of family and community in building confidence, respect, and strong moral values. These principles continue to guide her teaching and mentoring in children
